    A few questions about Facebook targeting/ conversion attribution

    I have a few questions about how facebook decides who our ads are being shown to.

    We have a campaign that is targeting dental clinics/dentists etc.

    Why is it that people I am related to would then see the ad? Is it simply because they like our business page? I should mention I am not a dentist and neither are my friends/family that are seeing the ad.

    Secondly, we have a similar campaign targeting daycares/teachers etc. FB has attributed a sale that is from a dentist office to this campaign. That seems really unlikely that it came from this campaign since we have another one targeting dentists as mentioned above.

    Detailed targeting expansion is turned on. Which I think might be the cause of the first issue – likely they are targeting my friends/family that like our business page or tangentially like the page. Which doesn’t really seem that helpful since we are targeting a new audience not really related to people liking our page already. But I am not sure about that so I am leaving it on for now.

    But it doesn’t really make sense why the dental office sale would be attributed to the Daycare campaign. Only possibility I can think of there is that the sale/conversion actually came from a google campaign and facebook took credit for the sale and randomly assigned it to the daycare campaign which I have actually seen happen I think.

    Its frustrating because I would like to refine the campaigns but Facebook often makes them look like they are performing better than they are on closer examination. basically I have to cross reference google ads conversion values, with my website and then with Fb as well.

    Can you take a screenshot of the targeting?
    Are you using a pixel for the conversion tracking? Is it set up correctly?
